Once you complete the ABST course and score at least 80% on the provincial exam, you can apply for your security service worker licence (Alberta security license). With your license, you will be able to apply for any of the possible careers listed above. If you have completed security training in Ontario, BC, Saskatchewan or Manitoba, it is considered equivalency in Alberta and you may be exempt from having to take the course. Want to work as a private investigator? The AIT course might be for you. Most AIT courses are delivered online in Alberta. To become an investigator, you will need to pass the provincial exam with a score of at least 80%, similar to the requirement for the ABST provincial exam. Upon completion, you will be able to apply for an investigator licence, which is required to work as a house or private investigator in Alberta. As with the ABST course, there are out of province equivalency exceptions available if interested in becoming an investigator in Alberta. Contact Security Programs for more information.
Baton/Use of Force Training, focusing on baton use, and pressure point control tactics (PPCT), for knowledge on best practices with handcuffs and during arrests, might be right up your alley if your goal is to become a peace officer for example.
